What is Evangelism? – Evangelism is simply the proclamation of the gospel.
The word evangelism comes from a Greek word meaning … “To tell the good news!”
- Evangeliser – was a runner (the messenger) who carried the good news of a military victory
- The Evangel – the message the runner had in his hand was the evangel.
- Evangelism – the act of announcing the victory.
Evangelism is an event not a process! – Look at it this way. In my years as a door to door salesman I have learned that going home without having made a sales meant I did not have any good news to tell my prospective clients. Now if I went a whole week without making a single sale I would not have carried the good news correctly therefore failed in my role as a salesman.
If I went a whole month of door to door sales and not make any sales … I have not learned the act of announcing the good news. So what do new people to door to door sales do when they do not get sales? They quit and go and look for a proper job!
This is the thing – I do absolutely get sales! The reason that happens is because I call on a lot of people and a very small percentage say YES ….
This is the thing – A LOT OF PEOPLE say No!!! No!!!No!! They either do not want what I am selling or are not ready for it for some reason or other.
The Good News is that some say YES!
I learned a saying years ago and it goes like this:
“Some will, some won’t so what?” Let’s say it again!
“Some will, some won’t so what?” Let’s say it again!
“Some will, some won’t so what?” Let’s say it again!
“Some will, some won’t so what?” Let’s say it again!
And as I keep going I soon realise this truth …….”SOME WILL!”
Does that reduce the value of my products and services? Absolutely not. It just means the timing is not right!
Sure I can say I followed a process – But the process has no effect if I don’t make a sale. However over 20 years of door to door sales I have learned that sales are made because I have developed the ability to announce the good news of the benefits of the products and or services I have been carrying or proclaiming and there are definitely sales there all I have to do is identify when and where.
How much of an evangeliser would I be if all I did was tell people other news other than the good news! Answer: A bad carrier of good news!
Good news is good news and not everyone is ready for the good news … and the good things is … who cares?
It’s God who convicts and brings the increase and as I partner with Him I get to enjoy Him and enjoy life.
What if I don’t lead someone to the Lord? No big deal! I just keep doing what God has asked me to do. Proclaim the good news!
It’s not my job to win souls. I know the bible says “He who wins souls is wise”. It also teaches me that one sows, another waters and God gives the increase.
Anyone can sow – all you need is to ask your pastor for tracts.
Anyone can water – all you need to do is follow up!
But it’s God who brings the increase!!!!
What if He doesn’t? What if He does?
